ISKCON Gangasagar: A Tribute to the Generosity of Late Govind Sahai Gupta and His Family

ISKCON Gangasagar is a visionary project dedicated to establishing a cultural and Vedic educational center on Sagar Island, West Bengal, India. This grand initiative aims to serve both pilgrims and the local community by providing a temple, a museum, a theatre, a library, a guest house, a restaurant, a gift shop, a Vedic school, an organic farm, an eco-friendly environment, and a charitable wing.

This noble endeavor has been made possible through the generous contributions of numerous well-wishers and patrons. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported this project in any capacity.

The Benevolent Legacy of Late Govind Sahai Gupta

We wish to express our special appreciation to our principal donor, Mr. Amit Gupta, his sister Asha Khotaria and thier mother, Smt. Sushila Devi Gupta, who are carrying forward the noble legacy of the late Govind Sahai Gupta, a distinguished businessman and philanthropist from Kolkata.

Late Govind Sahai Gupta was a highly successful industrialist, both in India and internationally. Beyond his professional achievements, he was known for his deep compassion and generosity toward the underprivileged. His philanthropic contributions spanned various sectors, including education, healthcare, cow protection, and temple construction.

One of his most notable contributions was funding the ISKCON Mayapur Annadan Complex Hall, where thousands receive free meals daily. His unwavering devotion to Lord Krishna and His devotees was evident in his active support for various ISKCON projects worldwide.

Govind Sahai Gupta had a profound spiritual connection with Sagar Island, where Lord Kapila Deva, an incarnation of Lord Krishna, imparted transcendental knowledge to His mother, Devahuti. With great devotion, he envisioned the establishment of a grand Krishna temple and cultural center at this sacred site. The Government of West Bengal generously allocated 3.6 acres of land for this noble cause, and he pledged substantial financial support for its construction.

Tragically, he left this world before witnessing the fulfillment of his dream. However, his family, upholding his noble vision, continued his legacy by making significant contributions to the ISKCON Gangasagar project.

Continuing the Vision: The Gupta Family's Contribution

His son, Mr. Amit Gupta, assumed responsibility for both the family business and his father's philanthropic mission, becoming the principal donor for ISKCON Gangasagar. His mother, Smt. Sushila Devi Gupta, has wholeheartedly supported this endeavor, ensuring the project's steady progress. Additionally, his daughter, Smt. Asha Kotaria, along with other family members, has also extended their support to this sacred cause.

We are deeply grateful to Late Govind Sahai Gupta and his family for their magnanimous contributions to ISKCON Gangasagar. Their exemplary use of wealth in the service of Lord Krishna and His devotees serves as an inspiration to all. Their service has earned them immense spiritual merit and the boundless blessings of Lord Krishna and His devotees.
